This model debuted for the 2013 model year and Renault updated this model for the 2017 version.

However, the latest reports suggest that the Captur will switch to the second generation by the end of the decade. The redesigned model should arrive in 2019 after the arrival of the new-gen Clio, probably as the 2019 Renault Captur. Reports say, that new-gen Captur will share the platform with new Clio model. The model should get reworked engine range and possibly electrified version. The styling and interior will also be modernized as well as the tech and safety equipment. 2019 Renault Captur: Design, New Platform The current Captur shares the platform with the Clio and that won’t change for the new-generation version. However, the new-gen Clio will debut earlier and will debut on the new platform.

The new architecture will be the Renault -Nissan’s CMF-B platform and the 2019 Renault Captur should be the second model exploiting this design. The QX80 uses the same architecture as the Nissan Armada, although the 5.6-liter V8 has been boosted up to 400 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque. While this helps deliver 8,500 pounds of towing capacity, it also results in pretty terrible fuel-economy figures: 14 mpg city/19 highway/16 combined with all-wheel drive and 14/20/16 with rear-wheel drive. Starting at $63,250, the QX80’s price undercuts everything in its class. Cadillac’s Escalade ranges from $72,970 to $91,950, the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class runs from $67,050 all the way up to $124,100, and the single-trimmed Lexus LX 570 commands an incredible starting MSRP of $88,880.

Compared to the competition, even the $88,850 QX80 Limited seems like a deal. Shoppers enjoy plenty of luxuries in the Limited, although Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not among them. The Intelligent Key system allows you to conveniently lock, unlock and start the vehicle, all without removing the Intelligent Key from your pocket or purse. Up to four Intelligent Keys can be used with one vehicle, provided they’re registered with an Infiniti retailer prior to using the system. To unlock a door from outside the vehicle, have the Intelligent Key with you and then push THIS request switch on the door handle. That door will unlock.

Push the switch again within one minute to unlock all doors. To lock your vehicle, push any door handle’s request switch once after all doors have been closed. These lock and unlock functions are operational when the Intelligent Key is within about 2 ½ feet of the corresponding request switch.

The Intelligent Key has remote keyless entry functions that can operate within approximately 33 feet of the vehicle. To lock your vehicle this way, press the LOCK button. The hazard lights flash twice and the horn beeps once to let you know that the doors are locked. Press the UNLOCK button to unlock the driver’s door. Press again within one minute to unlock all doors. Hold the UNLOCK button for more than 3 seconds after the doors are unlocked to lower the automatic windows. Your Intelligent Key can be used to adjust the hazard indicator and horn beep features.

To deactivate the horn beep feature when using the remote keyless entry function to lock or unlock the vehicle, press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for more than 2 seconds. The hazard indicator will flash three times. To reactivate the feature, press and hold the buttons again for more than 2 seconds. The hazard indicator will flash once and the horn will beep once. Your Intelligent Key is equipped with a PANIC ALARM button. If you are near your vehicle and feel threatened, press it for more than one second. The panic alarm will sound and the headlights will stay on for a period of time or until any button on the key fob is pressed.

Once inside the vehicle, you can lock and unlock all doors by pushing the driver’s or front passenger’s power door lock switch. Individual doors can be manually locked or unlocked using the inside lock knobs. If you exit the vehicle with the Intelligent Key left inside, all doors will unlock and a warning chime will sound as soon as you close the door. In the rare instance when your Intelligent Key battery is discharged, you can still lock or unlock the vehicle.

You’ll find a mechanical key concealed on the back of the Intelligent Key. To remove it, release the lock knob and slide the mechanical key out. You can then insert it into the key cylinder on the driver’s door and turn to lock or unlock the vehicle. The Intelligent Key contains sensitive electrical components.

Please avoid these circumstances that could affect its operation: ● Avoid dropping or striking it against another object, ● Keep it away from water, ● Keep it away from equipment with magnetic fields, including computers, cell phones, TVs and audio accessories, and ● Avoid using a key chain that contains a magnet. Let’s face it, despite less than stellar fuel economy, some people just need a really big SUV! So it goes without saying, rigs like the Infiniti QX80 had better be able to get the job done. Whether it’s for towing big toys, or just hauling loads of gear to your favorite getaway location, full-size SUVs like this 2016 Infiniti QX80, perform tasks that 3-row crossovers just can’t get done. And this “biggest of the QXs” is a heavy throwback beast of an SUV. Made in Japan and based on the global, full frame Nissan Patrol, you have to climb up into the QX80, and it really does feels like you’re driving something massive. But then, that’s also part of its appeal. It’s also very luxurious; and a vehicle capable of taking you just about anywhere and towing just about anything.

Actual towing capacity is 8,500-lbs., about the same as the Chevrolet Tahoe and rival Cadillac Escalade, but less than the Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator. Doing the pulling, is Nissan’s familiar 5.6-liter V8. Here with 400-horsepower and 413 lb-ft. Hit the gas and you do get a full V8, but the feel is not as sophisticated as the recently updated GM and Ford full-size utes.

Still, power is power, and there was plenty enough here to get us to 60 in 6.7-seconds. It’s a bit of a surreal experience; as even at wide open throttle, there’s almost no intrusive engine noise. Transmission is a 7-speed automatic. Shifts are buttery smooth, and you can trigger them yourself; there’s even downshift rev matching. Not that we were downshifting in the ¼-mile, rather keeping it pinned; getting to the end in 15.1-seconds at a good 94 miles-per-hour. It truly has more of an old school, floaty yet still solid feel through the cones; with accompanying light yet numb steering.

But there was not as much roll as we expected. We consider a 119-foot average stopping distance from 60 quite good for a beast of this stature. Stops were consistently smooth; with little nose dive, and zero drama.

Despite its throwback nature, the QX80 has a modern look to it, even though it hasn’t changed much since it first arrived as the QX56 for 2011. There’s a very tall front end with prominent grille befitting its large stance. Opt for Limited trim and you’ll be riding on 22-inch wheels attached with an automatic self-leveling suspension. Running boards with welcome lighting are also included, but they seem to be the type that get in your way more than aid with getting in and out.

There’s plenty for old-school SUV buyers to love inside, including the extremely comfortable front seats. A 3-person bench is an option for the 2nd row, but it’s actually captain’s chairs that are standard here, as is a 3-passenger 3rd row. Cargo volume goes from 16.6 cubic-ft. Behind the 3rd-row, to 49.6 behind the 2nd-row, and 95.1 with all seats folded. Limited trim gives most of the bells and whistles you might want. And the familiar Infiniti/Nissan layout means there’s a plethora of controls on the center stack, and also a touchscreen for more in depth control of audio and navigation.

And there’s even a central controller as well. So you have plenty of options for commanding your vessel. Both the leather and wood trim are impeccable. The available 4-wheel-drive system is also a traditional, way off-road capable part time system; with a high and low range transfer case. It’s a thirsty rig for sure. Government Fuel Economy Ratings are 13-City, 19-Highway, and 15-Combined. But we averaged a better than expected 18.2 miles-per-gallon of Premium.

That’s still a very poor Energy Impact Score of 22.0-barrels of annual oil consumption with yearly CO2 emissions of 9.8-tons. Pricing starts reasonably at $64,245. Four-wheel-drive adds $3,100; and you can have it all with Limited at $89,845. Too much for you? Well a Nissan Armada version will arrive later this year.

This 2016 Infiniti QX80 is certainly big and capable; but it’s not quite as bold and brash as Escalade or Navigator. Plus, what it lacks in modern street driving habits, it makes up for with passenger pampering. Still, it easily reminds us of the rough and ready throwback on which it is based. And, that’s what we love about it the most.
